한국어 뜻 : 1) 줄다리기, 2) 주도권 싸움
ex) A tug of war between the labor union of CJ and the company has begun.
CJ 노조와 회사간의 줄다리기가 시작됐다.
- Travis Kalanick was the kind of super ambitious tech leader that you needed to cut through municipal taxi regulations and grow the company exponentially.

영영 뜻 : 1) to understand something that is not easy to understand
2) to get through or past quickly and directly
한국어 뜻 : 1) 이해하기 어려운 것을 이해하다 2) 가로지르다, 사이를 내서 지나가다
ex) He can cut through the confusing statistics and get at the important facts.

영어 뜻 : in a way that becomes quicker and quicker as something that increases becomes larger.

Medical experts warn that infection cases could grow exponentially.
의학 전문가들은 감염자 수가 기하급수적으로 상승할 수 있다고 경고했다.
- Somebody who was tough and determined and energetic and could kind of push through obstacles.
- He was not somebody who was ever going to say to Travis Kalanick, you're doing something wrong, you're screwing up.
* somebody 표현
미드를 보거나 영어 뉴스를 보게 되면, '나는 ~~ 한 사람이다.' '그는 ~~ 한 사람이다.' 이러한 표현들을
"I am ~~" "He is ~~" 이런식으로 바로 표현하지 않고, "I am the man who ~~" "He is the man who ~~" 이렇게 쓰는 빈도가 더 많은 것을 느낄 수 있습니다.
주격 관계대명사라고 재미없게 말할 수도 있겠지만, 어떤 사람인지를 강조하기 위해 man, somebody who 이런 표현을 자주 쓰는 것 같으며 이를 자주 연습해보는 것도 좋을 것 같습니다.
npr 이번화에서도 연속으로 두번이나 somebody로 표현하고 있습니다.
* determined
영어 뜻 : 1) wanting to do something very much and not allowing anyone or any difficulties to stop you
2) showing the strong desire to follow a particular plan of action even if it is difficult
한국어 뜻 : 무언가를 아주 갈망하고, 결단력이 있는, 단호한
ex) a very determined young man
아주 결단력있는 젊은 남자
She had a determined look on her face.
그녀는 결연한 표정을 짓고 있었다.
* push through
영어 뜻 : 1) to cause/make a plan or suggestion to be officially accepted or put into use
한국어 뜻 : (의안을) 강행 통과시키다, 끝까지 해내다, (애써서) 이룩하다
ex) Manager pushed through a pay cut for its employees.
매니저는 직원들의 임금삭감을 강행해 통과시켰다.
He need a strong, clear goal in order to push through obstacles.
그는 장애물을 헤쳐나가기 위한 강력하고 명확한 목표가 필요했다.
Don't give up, hang in there, and push through it.
포기하지말고, 끝까지 버텨서, 결국 이뤄내요.
* screw up / get screwed up
영어 뜻 : a situation in which you do something badly or make a big mistake
한국어 뜻 : 망치다. 엉망이 되다.
ex) Covid really screwed up supply chains, as lockdown and worker illnesses got in the way.
락다운과 노동자들의 질병이 걸림돌이 되면서, Covid는 완전히 공급망을 엉망으로 만들었다.
** get in the way : 방해하다
ex) We almost reached an agreement, something unexpected got in the way though.
협의에 다다랐는데, 예상치 못한게 방해가 됐어.
